The Struts all played in local bands from the age or 14 or 15 … Addo in Derby, Luke in Bristol, Jaime in Petersborough and Rafe in Cambridge.

The Struts got their start when Luke and Addo met early in 2009.  They both put further school aside and spent most of 2009 into 2010 living at each other’s houses writing songs and recording in logic.   The goal was a new band and sound combining their retro melody with both contemporary and rock n roll influences.

Luke had a religious upbringing as his parents were gospel recording artists for many years and had toured extensively around the world.   However, Luke was introduced to classic rock n roll in his early teens and joined and fronted a Bristol band – and nothing has ever been the same!

Addo had his own band ‘The Raw’ where he played guitar and wrote from the age of 14 – and later became the singer and frontman when it changed to ‘Small Talk’.  Addo was searching for a great singer and when he met Luke he combined his Beatles influences with Luke’s gospel, soul and classic rock influences to form a new sound together.

Jaime was in a more pop-punk band in Peterborough from the age of 14 with Sam Bartle who is now a member of Dive Bella Dive signed with Red One and Universal. Dive Bella Dive has the same management as the Struts and that’s how they originally met Jaime. He started spending time with Luke and Addo at their houses and thus became the bass player of the Struts.

Rafe had been the drummer of the Aviators based in Cambridge and they were playing around the country.   The Aviators broke up when they all went off to different schools and Rafe was looking for a new band with he met the other three.

All 4 moved into a new band house in Derby in 2010 to create the struts. When they signed with Future/Mercury, they stayed in Derby rather than move to London like many bands  so they could easily play all over the midlands and help build a much bigger scene in Derby and Nottingham.

When they are not writing and doing band stuff they are often playing FIFA, visiting the local pubs and of course, shovelling snow.
